What to expect!

Please read thoroughly and come prepared!

What's Included

Your enjoyment of your trip is what’s most important. I will do everything in my power to keep you well looked after. Trips include all fishing gear, auger, rods, bait, lures, etc. Hot drinks and snacks provided, shore lunch made fresh on all full day trips, day and night. Typically this will be fried fish with french fries, beans, and corn. Fish bakes are also possible with potatoes or rice, let me know if this sounds more appealing. A camp stove will be along on all trips to warm water or food. Campfires can sometimes be had on the ice or in a sheltered spot on the shore. Trips include pickup and drop-off from your hotel in Whitehorse, or at another predetermined spot within the city. If you prefer, meet up can occur at the lake. There is no discount for this option.

Not Included

Winter clothing is your responsibility. Good boots, preferably waterproof, insulated bibs and a heavy parka are good, along with a toque and heavy mittens, plus gloves to fish with. Dressing in layers is a good idea, it’s amazing how warm you can get moving around on the ice while bundled up! Do your best to prevent sweating, as this will make you very cold after you stop moving.

Fishing licenses are not included. They can be bought at Hougens Sportslodge on Main Street in Whitehorse,  at Environment Yukon at 10 Burns Road, as well as online. They are very reasonably priced. Youth under 16 can fish without a license in the Yukon if accompanied by a license holding adult. You will need to show your license before the trip can commence.

Warm drinks and snacks are included, if you want to bring something special you are more than welcome to do so.

Keeping fish

North Country Outdoor Adventures abides by all laws and fishing regulations in the Yukon. Thus includes barbless hooks when required by law. In addition to this, North Country limits the keep of fish caught on our trips. Guests are welcome to keep a maximum of two fish each per trip, in addition to any eaten for shore lunch. All trophies will be released, this means all pike exceeding 75 cm total length, all lake trout exceeding 65cm, all burbot exceeding 80 cm, and all stocked trout species exceeding 50 cm. You agree to these terms when you book the trip. Fish filleting is available at a cost of $5 per fish. Fish will be boneless 99% of the time, but beware that the occasional bone does elude me.

What's Expected of You

All trips are outdoors in winter weather, please be prepared for some chilly days.

If the day of the trip arrives and the weather is forecast to be colder than -25 degrees Celsius, or winds exceeding 30 km/h, cancellation and refund of the trip deposit can occur if you decide to. Deposits are otherwise non refundable except in exceptional cases to be decided by myself.

You are going on a guided trip, please be willing to accept my guidance. As a long time fishing guide and life long angler, I have experience and knowledge that I want to share with you. I can assure you that catching fish will probably be more important to me than it is to you!

On that note, remember that this is fishing, and that we are in pursuit of wild animals. Nothing is guaranteed. Weather and other factors can play a major role in the fishes willingness to be caught! No fish days are very rare, but it’s best to take the day in as a beautiful day in the wilderness, and take the fish as a bonus.

Gratuities

Gratuities are not required or expected, but are very much appreciated. This helps me cover the cost of lost gear, snacks, new equipment, and other things that make your trip more enjoyable. Anybody can call themselves a fishing guide. You are paying for the service, but tipping for my knowledge!
